MFM midfielder Tunde Azeez already cuts a very confident figure having featured prominently this season in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and the young player is looking to add Wikki Tourists to his team’s scalp when they meet this Sunday.
It will be Matchweek 6 in the Nigeria top division and a win could see MFM return to the top of the pile in Group A of this season’s abridged championship, something Azeez believes can happen also considering results elsewhere as it concerns group leaders Rivers United.
The 20-year-old defensive midfielder told his club’s media that he is “looking forward” to this weekend’s fixture after intensed pre-match training sessions with his teammates this week.
“We are looking forward to the weekend clash. We have been working so hard and the intensity is high.
“We are also moving on gradually and by the grace of God at the end of the weekend game I believe we will go back to the top of the table,” Azeez told MFM FC media.
LEARNING FROM THE TEAM LEADER
For such a young head playing in the very rigorous top division in the country, Azeez has found in his team captain Austin Opara a shining example and guardian as he continues to develop his game.
He also points to MFM head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu who has believes in him and has thrust him in the thick of things this term after some high-profile departures on the eve of the campaign.
“I have been enjoying myself since I joined MFM FC. I am enjoying my game here because I have a lot of time to play. I also like the philosophy of our coach, he is free to everyone of us and very free to me.
“I am grateful to the captain of the team, who advises me most times about our games and there is no pressure on me,” said Azeez who joined MFM this season from Lagos non-league side Titan Football academy.
Azeez is available for selection this weekend at the Agege Stadium having made four appearances and provided an assist.
