Two-time Nigerian champions Bendel Insurance and Gombe United have put themselves in pole position to win promotion from the second tier the NNL to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
In Monday’s matches of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoff at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, Bendel Insurance and Gombe United secured victories over Remo Stars and Real Stars respectively.
Gombe United were made to work for the full points by Real Stars as they clinched the win in stoppage time through Adamu Mohammed’s header. The win now puts Gombe United on same (four) points with Kada City who lead the Northern Conference of the playoff.
Kada City are also in the running to secure promotion to the top-flight following a 3-0 spanking of Kogi United in a game that produced all three goals within a 15-minute period. Nura Mohammed, Umar Mohammed and Kabiru Sanusi scored for City.
Insurance edged Remo Stars 1-0 through Junior Osaghae’s 66th minute strike as the ‘Edo Arsenal’ claim maximum six points from their two matches so far at the playoff.
Monday Odigie’s men just need to avoid defeat in their final match in the Southern Conference of the playoff against 3SC on Wednesday to make a return to the top division for the first time in 10 years.
3SC BACK IN CONTENTION
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) put life back into their ambition of returning to top-flight football with a comfortable 2-0 win over struggling Delta Force. The win for 3SC comes on the back of their shock three-nil defeat to Remo Stars on Sunday.
