Former Super Eagles defender Juwon Oshaniwa and Brazilian midfielder Alberico Barbosa da Silva have joined Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Akwa United.
Oshaniwa who played for Nigeria at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil is back in the Nigerian top division after seven years when he last featured for Sharks FC (now Rivers United).
The 28-year-old defender joins as a free agent though he is managed by Double Diamond Sports.
The left-back last played for Scottish outfit Heart of Midlothian FC before he was cut loose.
Alberico, on the other hand, made his debut in Nigeria’s top-flight in 2016 when he joined FC Ifeanyiubah and quickly wormed his way into the hearts of supporters of the Nnewi club.
This time, the Brazilian midfielder makes a return to the NPFL after two years and his return is made possible by Akwa United head coach Rafael Everton his countryman.

Other new-signings are versatile defender Markson Ojobo, Emeka Atuloma, Wilson Elu, Wisdom Fernando, Ocheme Edoh and Samuel Akpan. Cameroon goalkeeper Jean Efala and Ivorian defender Blaise Adou are Akwa’s foreign signings.
Everton will have as assistants Daniel Japhet and his countryman Israel Jose Lira who is also a match reader.
