Shaun Bartlett has signed up to join the backroom staff of South Africa’s Bafana Bafana as one of Stuart Baxter’s assistants as they prepare for their 2019 AFCON qualifying match against Seychelles.
Bartlett’s appointment is a “more of game by game in the beginning” arrangement according to South Africa head coach Baxter.
The former South African international will work with Baxter in their two international matches against Seychelles within one week.
“Shaun has entered into an agreement with the association. I think it’s more of game by game in the beginning. But obviously we are looking at bringing Shaun into the staff. It’s welcome to him,” Baxter was quoted as saying by the Sowetan.
BAFANA INJURY CONCERNS
Amid the good news of bringing in Bartlett to the Bafana Bafana setup, Baxter is faced with injury concerns.
Thapelo Morena of Mamelodi Sundowns is all but ruled out of the Seychelles games due to a quad muscle sustained last Sunday while Vincent Pule of Orlando Pirates is also a doubt.
South Africa play hosts to Seychelles this Saturday and follow up with a trip to the island next Tuesday week.
