Former CAF Champions League winners Enyimba have left out their captain Mfon Udoh and Ghanaian goalkeeper Fatau Dauda from their matchday squad to face Rwandan outfit Rayon Sports in Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup first leg, quarter-final game in Kigali.
The Ghanaian goalkeeper has been left out of the People’s Elephant recent roster with Theophilus Afelokhai now preferred by head coach Usman Abdallah.
This has left the 33-year-old goalkeeper is not pleased with falling in the pecking order of stoppers at the club though sources at the People’s Elephant revealed that the bosses feel Fatau’s form has dipped.
But there was a case of Fatau having an altercation with club officials ahead of their AITEO Cup match against Wasiu Alabelewe FC which they won 3-0 and the Ghanaian stopper, it is understood now wants out.
Afelokhai is once again expected to start in Kigali with Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa also in the team for the match.
Enyimba release statement on their captain
In Udoh’s case, he has been “suspended indefinitely” by the club.
A part letter to the player last week explained the reason for his suspension: “This is to formally notify you that due to your gross misconduct and indiscipline, you have been suspended indefinitely and without pay until further notice.”
Udoh, whose contract runs out at the end of this season, is a mainstay in the Enyimba.
Our attention has been drawn to news making the rounds that Mfon Udoh has quit our club.
There is no truth to this as the player was suspended last week for misconduct and indiscipline.
