A fuel tanker filled to the hilt exploded on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the bridge close to Otedola Estate leading to a huge fire outbreak that engulfed more than 30 vehicles.
Images of the fire incident currently circulating the social space is quite gory while the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Lagos emergency services as well as the Nigeria Police are unable to confirm.
The fire it was said swept through the section of the road where the fuel-filled tanker had occupied.
According to a report on Channels TV, a commercial bus ran into the tanker after the driver of the bus apparently lost control of his wheels leading to the explosion.
Another account says a Mack truck tanker filled with 33,000 litres of premium motor spirit spilled onto the road leading to the fire outbreak at about 5.20pm.
Emergency officials at the scene pulled out the remains of nine people, eight adults and a minor.
The affected part of the expressway has been closed to vehicles as emergency officials have cordoned off the scene in a bid to put things under control.
It is feared many have lost their lives in the accident with others injured.
