After the dramatic happenings of the third round of matches at the World Cup in Russia especially in Group B where superpowers Spain and Portugal were nearly stunned by Morocco and IR Iran respectively. Those were amazing games in Kaliningrad and Mordovia.

Now I think the margins between the big football nations and the so-called minnows are beginning to close up and it could be a matter of time before another new World Cup winner emerges. However there are 12 more matches to round off the group stage and there will be betting tips from now till the final on July 15.

TUESDAY’S MATCHES

Australia vs Peru

The tournament is over for Peru after two defeats of similar 0-1 scorelines to France and Denmark. Well the Australians are still in it after a draw and a defeat. The Socceroos still have so much to play for and hope things work in their favour in the other Group C game. I think Peru will make it tough for them though.

The Predictor’s tip: Draw

Denmark vs France

I am tipping France to maintain their 100 per cent run in Russia and qualify for the last 16 as Group C winners. The Danes have done well so far by getting four points off their two matches though they will still feel they should have done better against Australia in that 1-1 draw. No pressure for the French who might ring changes to their XI.

The Predictor’s tip: France win

Iceland vs Croatia

Croatia have already booked their place in the last 16 but they still need to win the group if they intend to avoid France which I am sure they want to do. I expect Zlatko Dalic to field a strong team to an extent against Iceland irrespective of their top spot position in Group D.

The Predictor’s tip: Croatia win

Nigeria vs Argentina

This game is going to be a keenly contested and is expected to produce goals like it did four year ago in Brazil. Argentina are on the brink and coincidentally, Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Iceland played them back into contention. One of these teams will reach the knockout stage but expect goals in this one.

The Predictor’s tip: Over 1.5

WEDNESDAY’S MATCHES

South Korea vs Germany

The holders Germany fought their way back from the brink of elimination with that Toni Kroos’ free kick strike on the cusp of full-time against Sweden last Saturday. The South Koreans have lost all of their two matches, meaning they are eliminated. But Die Mannschaft will just want to go through and that could set them up against Brazil.

The Predictor’s tip: Germany to win first half and win the game

Mexico vs Sweden

Can I say Mexico’s El Tri have punched their above their weights in Group F where the champions Germany were tipped to win? Well that they have done and could now seal the group as winners and avoid Brazil. Sweden still have a lot to play for but the Mexicans I am tipping to win this.

The Predictor’s tip: Mexico win

Switzerland vs Costa Rica

The gutsy Swiss are still very much in the hunt for a last 16 place. They are tied on points with Group E leaders Brazil, and facing Costa Rica who have lost all of their two matches. Switzerland have shown they are so far the comeback kings of this tournament anf with such character I put them ahead of costa Rica.

The Predictor’s tip: Switzerland win

Serbia vs Brazil

Two late goals in added time from Philippe Coutinho and Neymar helped Brazil to a 2-0 win over Costa Rica after an earlier draw with Switzerland in their first game. Serbia are in a dire position to win this game and it would be a nervy contest though I expect Brazil to win.

The Predictor’s tip: Brazil win

THURSDAY’S MATCHES

Japan vs Poland

Japan have dug their fingers deep into the pot in Group H to stay within reach of a second round place with Senegal and Colombia on their tails. But the Asians know they have to get the job done against Poland who have been extremely disappointing at this World Cup. Japan are my favourites.

The Predictor’s tip: Japan win

Senegal vs Colombia

Things are still very open in Group H and these two nations are in the race for the next round. I am sure both of them would wish they had sealed qualification earlier before this matchup. Senegal now need to just avoid defeat and they will be through unlike Colombia who have to win. African teams have often struggled against South American sides.

The Predictor’s tip: Colombia win

England vs Belgium

Both countries have already qualified for the second round and that means they will rest key players but will look to win Group G. Belgium and England have identical stats — number of wins, goals scored, conceded and points. There will be goals in this game which I expect to be open.

The Predictor’s tip: Over 2.5

Panama vs Tunisia

The two countries are eliminated from the tournament. So they will only be playing for the points and hope to give their supporters something to cheer. But the Tunisians are my favourites to land the full points against the debutants.

The Predictor’s tip: Tunisia win
