Ikechukwu Ezenwa has told thepredictorng.com that he is excited to be named goalkeeper of the year at the recent edition of the Nigeria Pitch Award.
The Enyimba stopper said the recognition will spur him on to give his best as he looks forward to being named in Nigeria’s final 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia.
“I am very happy with this recognition as the best goalkeeper in the country. There are many goalkeepers who are also very good but I can only remain grateful to God for this because it is a big award in my career and it will give me further confidence to continue to give my best whenever I play for my club and my country.
“This is also good coming at this time as the World Cup is coming near,” Ezenwa told thepredictorng.com.
The former FC Ifeanyiubah man said the decision on who gets the nod as number one in Russia rests with the Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr.
However the stopper is relishing the chance of being a part of the west African nation’s team to the World Cup and hopes it will culminate in a chance to make an appearance in Russia.
“Well I remain optimistic that I have the chance (of being number) but the decision is for the coach to make. The coach has confidence in all of us he called to camp and that is the beauty about it. Since I am in the team, I am happy and can only hope I will get a chance,” he said.
The ex-Ocean Boys and Sunshine Stars will be the only player from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to make the final squad to the World Cup this year.
