Two people are believed to have died in a gas fire incident in Magodo areas of Lagos State on Monday, thepredictorng.com can report.

The incident happened at Second Coming gas station on CMD Road in Magodo area on Monday morning and it is reported that a gas leakage from a vehicle caused the explosion at the Second Coming gas station.

According to Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) General Manager, Adesina Tiamiyu, two burnt bodies were recovered at the scene of the incident.

Eight people were injured in the explosion as well.

“Two burnt bodies were recovered behind the fence of the gas station, while eight casualties were also recorded with various degrees of burns and injuries which were attended to by the officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service and the agency’s paramedics before moving two with more degrees of burns to trauma centre, toll gate for further medical attention,” Tiamiyu said.

Thepredictorng.com learned that the incident escalated as the fire engulfed the two of the gas storage tanks and a 33,000 litre gas tanker truck was consumed too.

The fire has been contained as at the time of filing in this report but LASEMA is taking an assessment of the incident and will shut down the gas station for a while for the safety of the Magodo neighbourhood.

Tiamiyu explained: “The fire has been contained but we are assessing the situation on ground. We will have to closed down the gas station for 24 hours or even more while a proper assessment goes on. This will help determine if the gas station will remain in this location or will not for the safety of this neighbourhood. And if it will remain then it (the gas station) must show that it prioritizes the issue of safety.”

Officials of LASEMA, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and Lagos State Fire Service helped in containing the fire incident.
