Ajayi, Moses, Troost-Ekong shortlisted for African Player of the Year awards

Nigeria trio of Junior Ajayi, Victor Moses and William Troost-Ekong have been named among this year’s nominees for the African Player of the Year and the African Player of the Year – based in Africa – awards by CAF.

CAF announced the 30-man shortlist for Africa’s biggest individual prize in football on Wednesday.

Moses and Troost-Ekong will go up against some stellar individuals for the prize including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita, Essam El Hadary, Eric Bailly,

Also, another 30 players were listed to vie for the African Player of the Year (based in Africa) award.

Ajayi is listed in the award for players based in Africa. He will also come up against some of the continent’s finest footballers who play for clubs in Africa.

Last year’s winner of the African Player of the Year – based in Africa Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango, South Africa’s Percy Tau, Al Ahly’s Ali Maaloul and Zambia defender Fackson Kapumbu are the players who are shortlisted in both categories of the award.

New Zealand international Jeremy Brockie who plays in the South African top division with SuperSport United is listed for the African Player of the Year – based in Africa award.

The winners for both categories, according to CAF, “will be decided by votes from the Head Coaches/Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF, members of the CAF Technical and Development Committee and a panel of Media Experts.”

The award ceremony will hold next year in Accra, Ghana on 4 January.
