Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Abia Warriors have moved to sign Sunsel FC midfield enforcer Solomon Obubu.
Abia Warriors have gone to the amateur tier of the country’s league to comb for an unknown talent in Obubu.
Obubu featured prominently in the campaign of Sunsel FC in the Nationwide League One and is considered an emerging talent by his minders.
According to the NPFL official website on Wednesday, Abia Warriors are currently negotiating with Sunsel to prise away Obubu.
Already, the move has been logged into the Domestic Matching Transfer System (DMTS) in Nigeria as talks continue for the midfielder who can also play as a centre-back.
Sunsel FC chairman Eugene Eremionkhale confirmed that discussions are ongoing but will wait till a deal is struck.
He however explained that “Solomon (Obubu) is one of our prized players and talented too.”
“Yes there are talks going on,” Eremionkhale told thepredictorng.com.
“At Sunsel what we do is groom players to become big hitters, and as a modest club competing in the Nigeria Nationwide League One, we try to keep a young squad of players especially below 20 years while we allow those above that age to move to bigger things.
“Solomon is one of such players who has distinguished himself with us and that is why he has been spotted by a club in the top division.”
WHAT OBUBU MIGHT ADD TO ABIA WARRIORS
• Obubu is a multi-gifted midfielder who can play in a box-to-box role.
• He can also slot into the heart of defence for his team.
• The biggest asset of Obubu is his ability from dead-ball situations – simply put he is a free kick specialist.
• The Sunsel FC man is also strong on the tackle and on the ball.
