Christian Pyagbara was a central figure in Akwa United’s ruthless 7-0 thumping of Katsina Feeders in their first leg, quarter-finals of the Aiteo Cup at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
As expected The Promise Keepers were favourites to claim a win in the first meeting but the Uyo club produced a commanding performance to go out of reach ahead of the second leg in Katsina this Wednesday.
Pyagbara scored four times for Akwa United as they ran over the Katsina side in a one-sided contest.
Kodjo Dadzie opened scoring for The Promise Keepers on 25 minutes and it took only five minutes interval for Musa Newman to add a second.
Two goals, both scored by Pyagbara, in the last 11 minutes of the first half, extended Akwa United’s lead to four and left Katsina Feeders doomed for a thumping when the second period began.
Pyagbara was in his elements and within two minutes of the restart, he got his hat-trick.
On 52 minutes, he was on hand to score his fourth goal of the game as Akwa United led six-nil in the lopsided affair.
Michael Ibeh added one more goal eight minutes to the end to make it 7-0 and effectively give Akwa United the initiative ahead of the return leg in Katsina.
Also on Sunday, Rivers Angels reached the semi-finals in the women’s competition after defeating Edo Queens 3-0 on penalties. Both teams played out a goalless draw on aggregate.
