Hapoel Be’er Sheva striker Anthony Nwakaeme is keen to hit the ground running for Nigeria if he gets the chance to face Nigeria in Friday’s 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The 28-year-old got his first call from Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr for the double game with Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions and expressed excitement with the opportunity and hopes to make it count in the face of quality strikers vying for starting places.
The big forward was also quick to dispel that he felt “disappointed” at some point when the Nigerian selectors did not look in his way.
He added that he knew his time to pull on the Nigerian colours would come and now he hopes to get his debut off to a flyer if he is picked to play.
“I have never been disappointed when I wasn’t called to the (Nigeria) national team. I always knew the time would come and I was just waiting for the right time.
“I am very happy that the coach has given me the chance to be part of the team this period because I have really been working hard with my team. Now I just want to take my chance and do my best,” Nwakaeme said.
Nwaakaeme is in line to make his first international appearance for Nigeria as they face Cameroon over two meetings on Friday and Monday.
