Ezenwa gets chance to face Cameroon

Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr has hinted that FC Ifeanyiubah goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa will start the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying match against Cameroon at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.

This comes after Chippa United stopper Daniel Akpeyi failed to recover from an injury.

“Daniel hasn’t recovered so the goalkeeper who plays in Nigeria will start,” said Rohr to the media at the Ibom Meridien Hotel lodgings of the Super Eagles in Uyo.

Rohr further said Akpeyi will take no part in Friday’s match against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions as Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye has been handed a late call to join the team.

Already Ezenwa is braced for the challenge of going up against the African champions and promised “I will not disappoint.”

“It is a huge responsibility to represent Nigeria. I thank the coaches for this opportunity. I will not disappoint,” said.

Ezenwa has managed six clean sheets in 14 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) appearances for FC Ifeanyiubah and has been the country’s number one goalkeeper for the African Nations Championship (Chan).
