Evans pleads guilty, trial date now Oct 19


Suspected notorious kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike popular known as Evans has pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of kidnapping.

Evans was arraigned before a High Court in Lagos on Wednesday alongside five other suspects.

The others are Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Aduba.

Evans and the other five were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping.

Two of the accused, Evans and Amadi pleaded guilty to the charges while Aduba, Uchechukwu and Ifeanyi pleaded otherwise.

The lead prosecutor Kazeem Adeniji who is the Lagos State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General asked that the defendants be remanded in police custody pending when a trial date is set for Evans, AMadi and Uchechukwu who had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge.

Olukoya Ogungbeje, counsel to Evans and the five others told the court that the defence team only met its client on Wednesday morning before the hearing at the Ikeja High Court.

He added that the defence team was served on the morning of the case.

However the judge, Justice Hakeem Oshodi, accepted the prayer of Adeniji and ordered that the six accused persons be remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos till when the trial comes up on October 19.
