A former Nigerian senator from the northern state of Katsina, Kanti Bello, has passed on.
The two-time lawmaker died on Tuesday morning at the age of 72 in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, after battling an undisclosed ailment.
Bello, represented Daura senatorial district in two terms from 2003 to 2007 and from 2007 t0 2011.
His death was confirmed by Kabir Faskari, a younger brother to the former Katsina State deputy Abdullahi Faskari.
“I am directed to inform everybody that we lost Senator Kanti Bello early hours of this mourning (Tuesday) at Abuja. Burial arrangement will be announced later,” he said in a statement.
Bello was a chieftain of the ruling party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (AP)C in Katsina State and a former senate chief whip.
