Norwegian club IK Start have signed on Nigerian forward Adeleke Akinyemi from Latvian outfit FK Ventspils, Start announced on Thursday.
Akinyemi who has impressed in Ventspils shirt in the Europa League playoffs this season completed a three-year deal and now teams up with another Nigerian Afeez Aremu at the club.
The striker arrived in Norway on Wednesday before undergoing medical and signing the deal that keeps him at IK Start till 2021.
“Start proud to announce that Adeleke Akinyemi is ready for the club. The Nigerian striker, who has attracted a lot of attention due to his many goals and good performances in recent seasons, arrived Kristiansand late Wednesday night.
“Akinyemi trained the team this morning and showed that he knows where the goal is. The last formalities around the transition came into place this afternoon,” IK Start confirmed on their website.
Akinyemi is excited with prospect of playing for Start in the Norwegian top division and hopes he can replicate his freescoring form at Ventspils at his new club.

“I’m very happy to come here. I look forward to getting started and hoping to score many goals for Start,” said Akinyemi after his unveiling as a Start player.
Akinyemi impressed in the Europa League with Ventspils by scoring seven goals including against French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
The 20-year-old will wear number 77 and could be in line to make his debut for IK Start when they face Odd at home on August 27 as this Sunday’s trip to Stromsgodset comes too early.
