Kwara United put life into their bid to beat the drop by holding off former NPFL champions Enugu Rangers 0-0 in one of Sunday’s Matchday 17 games while El-Kanemi Warriors cruised to a 3-0 win over Heartland.

The Ilorin club have now extended their unbeaten run to four matches and the goalless outing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu is a surprise result to a lot of pundit.

However it is the second time that the Kwara United head coach Abubakar Bala would avoid defeat at Rangers. Last season he led Niger Tornadoes to a 1-1 draw at same venue before he was surprisingly shown the exit door on the eve of the start of this campaign.

Since his switch to Kwara United to replace John Obuh, Bala is yet to lose game in his four outings [1W 3D].

The 0-0 outcome in Enugu has helped Kwara United move out of bottom spot but they remain two points away from safety.

Heartland have now replaced Kwara United as the basement team after the three-nil defeat in Maiduguri.

The Naze Millionaires suffered a three-nil defeat for the second time this season as El-Kanemi ran out winners with Ghanaian Anthony Yeful scoring twice and Bello Kofarmata netting the other.

The Owerri club now have 17 points from 16 matches.

Nasarawa United’s poor away form continued on Sunday as they were defeated 1-0 at Rivers United. Sochima Elum scored a 57-seconds goal was all Rivers United needed to win the game.

Abia Warriors and Go Round were held at home by Katsina United and Niger Tornadoes respectively. Samson Obi’s goal Abia Warriors was cancelled by Joshua Agboola while Nelson Esor’s first half strike for Go Round on 16 minutes only lasted for 28 minutes. Segun Alebiosu levelled matters for Tornadoes who stretched their unbeaten streak to seven games — same as Abia Warriors.

Sikiru Alimi and Franklin Sasere scored for Sunshine Stars as they eased their worries of flirting with the bottom-four with a 2-1 win over Wikki Tourists who took an early lead through Abubakar Umar on three minutes.
