Nigeria sprinter Seye Ogunlewe narrowly missed the chance to win a medal in the men’s final of the 100 metres at the Carrara Stadium on Monday.
The west African nation had two sprinters in the men’s 100m final with Enoch Adegoke being the other but it was Ogunlewe who raised his country’s hope of a medal when it appeared he was close to the finish line in third place until Jamaican and pre-race favourite Yohan Blake forced his way back after a stumbling start.
However, Ogunlewe and Blake finished with the same 10.19 seconds with the Jamaican clinching bronze on the line.
Adegoke, on the other hand, finished in seventh with a time of 10.35 seconds.
South African pair of Akani Simbine and Henricho Bruintjies clinched gold and silver medals respectively in a time of 10.03 and 10.17 seconds.
