Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Sunshine Stars have become the latest club to sack their head coach Duke Udi, thepredictorng.com understands.
Udi has been shown the exit door for what the Akure club termed “misconduct and insubordination.”
The news of his sack came in about the time Udi took charge of training at about 5pm local time.
However the directive for Udi to step down came from the Ondo State sports ministry after it was briefed by the management of the Ondo State Football Agency which oversees the day-to-day running of Sunshine Stars.
The state’s sports ministry and the football agency had met earlier on Tuesday and decided on the future of the Sunshine Stars head coach after complaints of insubordination to his bosses emerged.
The Akure Gunners, or Owena Waves as they want to be called nowadays, will have technical director Henry Abiodun take charge of the team for this weekend’s trip to Niger Tornadoes.
“The management board and the Ministry of Youth and Sports management at a joint meeting today agreed that coach Duke Udi should step aside with immediate effect from today 13th March and the Technical Director of the team, Henry Abiodun with CAF licence A should lead the team,” part of the statement from the sports ministry revealed.
However the decision to hand Abiodun the head coach job remains unclear if it will be for the long haul, or till the end of the season.
Udi spent eight months as head coach of Sunshine Stars since he joined the club in July 2017 and led them to safety.
Sunshine Stars are expected to make a formal announce of their own on Wednesday, thepredictorng.com has been informed.
