FIFA World Cup winner and Frenchman Christian Karembeu believes that Nigeria’s Super Eagles have all the trappings to create “great things” when the biggest football tournament kicks off in Russia in June this year.
The 47-year-old listed “strength and ambition” among qualities often seen in previous Nigerian squad and now holds the view that the current Super Eagles are capable of reaching new heights.
He also described the present Nigerian squad as an “exciting” bunch.
The former Real Madrid man also points to his experience of playing with some Nigerian players as reason for tipping the African nation to go places at the World Cup finals in Russia.
“Yes, we know there are a number of strong African countries in the game but Nigeria has always been a great footballing nation, and they have an exciting team heading to the FIFA World Cup in Russia. I have played alongside and against so many Nigerian players and I can attest to their strength and ambition. I believe the present Super Eagles squad is capable of great things,” said Karembeu at a world press conference in Abuja to welcome the World Cup trophy which began a four-day tour from Wednesday.
Nigeria are in Group D alongside former world champions Argentina, Iceland and Croatia.
