Frenchman Abraham Kiprotich and Herpha Guta of Ethiopia have won the men’s and women’s categories of this year’s Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
The 32-year-old French long distance runner finished the 42km race in 2:15:04 while Guta claimed the prize in the women’s category in a time of two hours, 38 minutes.
Kiprotich was born in Kenya’s Nandi North County but switched nationality to France after living in the country for several years before gaining citizenship that led to his competing for the European nation.
The win in the Lagos City Marathon becomes the second major long distance race, the Frenchman has won in the space of four months. He won the 2017 Istanbul Marathon in a time of 2:11:22.
Kiprotich and Guta following their success at the Lagos marathon will pocket $50,000 each.
Ilya Pam was the first Nigerian to cross the finish line in two hours, 27 minutes.
