Zambia head coach Wedson Nyirenda has included under-17 forward Lameck Banda and Larry Bwalya in a 26-man roster as they prepare for their crucial 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria in Uyo on 7 October.
All 26 players are from clubs in the Zambian league and the preparation is the first phase of residential camping scheduled to begin from 25 September in Lusaka.
Banda captained Zambia’s under-17s to the Cosafa tournament this year by defeating Mauritius 3-0. He finished the tournament with five goals as joint top scorer.
In the list of players based in Zambia is Power Dynamos midfielder Bwalya who gets a first call for the first time in two years. His last call up was against Egypt in a friendly.
Bwalya has been in red-hot form for Power Dynamos, scoring four league goals and have weighed in with seven assists.
Nyirenda is expected to name another set of players that consist of overseas-based players for the Nigeria game.
Zambia currently sit in second place with seven points, three behind their World Cup qualification group leaders Nigeria and will need an outright win to stand a chance of appearing at a first Fifa World Cup.
