Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) were confirmed relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Saturday after Wikki Tourists defeated Gombe United 2-0.
The Ibadan club were hoping that troubled Gombe United would turn their tie against Wikki on the head after it was initially abandoned after 25 minutes at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe a week ago with Wikki leading 1-0 through a Chigozie Maurice’s own goal.
Any hope of 3SC staying in the top division for a fourth consecutive season came to an end when Abubakar Lawal scored the second for Wikki and took their total points for the campaign to 53, three more than the Oluyole Warriors who finished in 17th place.
In the past three seasons, the Ibadan club have teetered just above the drop zone and have had current Enyimba head coach Gbenga Ogunbote to thank for saving them the blushes of being relegated in 2016 and 2015.

However Ogunbote left the club to join up with Enyimba where he helped them to a third place finish and secure a Caf Confederation Cup place.
Wikki right-back Mustapha Ibrahim is excited that the Giant Elephant will have another chance to appear in the top division.
“I am really happy we survived relegation,” said Ibrahim to thepredictorng.com. “Now we have to look forward to next season and hope to do well.”
Ibadan club 3SC now join ABS FC, Gombe United and Remo Stars as teams to drop to the second tier the Nigeria National League (NNL).
