Fifa president Gianni Infantino has applauded Plateau United for emerging champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Infantino described the feat as borne out of “determination” of the Jos club.
He believes that the title-winning feat of Plateau United further underscores the mantra at Fifa in “helping to spread the positive message of football” across the World.
“Plateau United are the 2017 Champions of Nigeria. It gives me great pleasure to send my warmest congratulations to Plateau United for their first ever championship title!
“This title is the result of the determination of everyone involved and my congratulations go to the players, the coach, the administration, the entire technical and medical staff as weil as the fans for this great achievement.
“On behalf of the entire football community, I would Iike to thank Plateau United and your association for helping to spread the positive message of football,” wrote Infantino to Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick on Tuesday.
Plateau United won the Nigeria top flight last Saturday at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos following a 2-0 defeat of last season’s champions Enugu Rangers and joined the exclusive list of NPFL winners as the 19th club to win the league.
